My Child Is Short — Can They Play Basketball?
Steering a child by height at this age is one of the most common mistakes in youth sport. The relative age effect, the growth spurt, and how decisive height actually is.

The Basketball School is Başarı Spor Akademisi’s basketball programme for children and teenagers aged six and over. Delivered at the academy’s training camp in age-grouped sessions, it runs from fundamental ball handling through to team play.
The hardest thing to learn young in basketball is letting go of the ball. When a child has it, they assume the whole game is about them — whereas the essence of the sport is being in the right place when you do not have it. So the programme trains individual skill and off-ball movement together. A child who knows what to do after passing has started to understand the game.
Technical work is separated by age. In the younger groups the priorities are ball handling, using both hands, and correct shooting form — form, not range, because a child pushed to shoot from distance too early carries broken mechanics for life. Hoop height and ball size are set to the age group.
In the older groups, reading the game, defensive principles and team organisation come in. At this level the goal is for the child to trust their own decision rather than wait for the coach’s instruction. A mistake in a match is answered with analysis afterwards, not with shouting during.
Individual skill, game understanding and physical development are trained together each week.

We do not write a programme without measuring first. After the assessment you will see, in numbers, how far from your target you actually are.
