Exam Preparation
Years spent at a desk do not have to be a disadvantage on the field.
Free Athlete AssessmentThe POMEM Preparation Programme is Başarı Spor Akademisi’s programme for university graduates facing the physical fitness examination in the intake process for Turkey’s Police Vocational Training Centres (Polis Meslek Eğitim Merkezi). Delivered at the academy’s training camp, it uses a safe, graded progression to bring candidates who have not trained in years up to course standard.
The POMEM candidate profile differs markedly from the others. The person in front of us has usually finished university, spent a few years at a desk, and last trained regularly a long time ago. That is not a disadvantage, but it is a different starting point — and handing a thirty-year-old the programme written for a twenty-year-old is the shortest route to injury.
So the opening weeks build readiness rather than performance: joint mobility, tendon tolerance, correct movement patterns. Years of sitting restrict hip and shoulder mobility, and sprint or jump work done before that is addressed produces damage rather than progress. Course work begins only once that base exists.
In return this group has a clear advantage: discipline. Adult candidates are usually far more consistent, follow nutrition and sleep guidance, and do not miss sessions. Our experience is that, graded correctly, this group progresses faster than expected.
Block one is readiness and movement quality; block two is strength and conditioning; block three is the course.
